All of our animals have been rescued from less-than-ideal circumstances. In the spirit of moving forward and having fun, we have slightly tweaked the back stories of our Stars. Enjoy!
The Goats
Theodore
Theodore was one of our original rescues in 2015. He is a 9-year-old Nubian mix who enjoys sunning himself on the mini-barn roof, playful tomfoolery, and carefully holding on to his last remaining lower incisor.
Favorite Song
“Goat Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac
Bennie
Bennie came to us (with his gal pal, Birdie) in 2016. He is an 8-year-old Alpine mix who enjoys goat yoga, fine salmonberry leaf cuisine, and dancing in the moonlight. When Bennie arrived, he was wearing only electric boots and a mohair suit left over from his wildly unsuccessful stage career.
Favorite Song
“Don’t Goat Breaking My Heart” by Elton John & Kiki Dee
Minnie Riperton
Minnie came to us as a package deal with Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds. She is a Pygmy goat mix who loves the attention of being the only babe in the barn. She was found living downtown, driving all the old men crazy.
Favorite Song
“Don’t Let the Sun Goat Down on Me” by Elton John
Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds
These 2-year-old Nigerian Dwarf mixes have plenty of spunk, spirit, and vigor. They were rescued from a second-rate ’70s county fair musical tour where they played their lone hits, “Don’t Pull Your Love” and “Fallin’ In Love.”
Favorite Song
“Goat All the Way” by The Raspberries
Hall & Oates
Hall and Oates were out of touch, tied up without water in a shipping container in Arlington. They said, “We can’t go for that”, learned how to untie knots and, one on one, made their way to Barn Stars. When we heard their story, we knew we couldn’t go for that and subsequently made their dreams come true.
Favorite Song
“Everytime You Goat Away” by Hall and Oates
Joe Cocker
Joe was rescued from an illegal cock-fighting ring. (Really!) He likely was too young at the time to have actually fought, but now he preaches love and peace in the barn, living in harmony with the goats — but still uses his fighting skills to protect his buddy, Ichabod, from the alpha goats. He reminds us of his ominous presence every morning at about 5 am!
Favorite Song
“She Came in through the Barnyard Window” by Joe Cocker
The Chicken Brothel
Rue
Rue, our stylin’ Polish hen, is a model and influencer who was recruited by the late Madame Buttercup to give the Brothel a much-needed boost of panache and verve. She spends the day tossing her ‘do and strutting her stuff. Oh, they love to watch her strut!
Favorite Song
“Hatched This Way” by Lady Gaga
Coco Vin
A Gold Laced Wyandotte, Coco enjoys watermelon, bobbing her head in a rhythmic vertical motion, and teeter-totters. She came to us when she dared to cross the road.
Favorite Song
“Chicken Train” by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils
Barbara Bock Bock
Barbara is an Ameraucana who loves hunting potato bugs and lounging in the sun on her swing set. Barbara came from Miami, F.L.A., hitchhiked her way across the U.S.A., plucked her feathers on the way, and showed up on a sunny day.
Favorite Song
“Dixie Chicken” by Little Feat
Marilyn McCoop
Although Marilyn is a chicken of unknown genetic makeup, she claims to have direct lineage to the rebels of the Great Louisville KFC Chicken Escape of 1971. She excels in the game of Chicken, never blinking an eye, never backing down.
Favorite Song
“Do the Funky Chicken” by Rufus Thomas
Penny McClucker
An Ameraucana, Penny is a jovial and giving chicken whose selfless attitude places her at the bottom of the proverbial pecking order in the Brothel. But she doesn’t care cuz’ Penny’s head is always in the clouds, longing for the day she finally flies. You may say she’s a dreamer, but she’s not the only one.
Favorite Song
“Time for Me to Fly” by REO Speedwagon
Quackerville
Chandler & Joey
Chandler & Joey are little yet loud Snowy Mallards. Originally duckling television superstars, they became a cautionary tale of the excesses of Hollywood life. They eventually made their way to Quackerville and now are the big ducks in a little pond — but they will still, with joy, revel you in the tales of their glory days. We hear a new reality show is in the works.
Favorite Song
“Some Guys Have All the Duck” by Rod Stewart
J.P. Quackers & Gertrude
J.P. Quackers and Gertrude were found wandering around the City Dump looking for Ketchikan the Animal Man. They are real clowns who enjoy Saturday morning cartoons with a bowl of Cap’n Crunch. They are the ODs of our new Duck Sanctuary.
Favorite Songs
“With a Little Duck” by Paul McCartney & Wings and “You Got Ducky” by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
The Angels
Meet the Angels: Farrah, Jacqueline & Kate. This lovely trio of rescues will be working on mysteries without any clue
Favorite Songs
“Angel of the Morning” by Juice Newton and “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'” by Charley Pride
Lady Marmalade & Sister Christian (aka The Chucks)
These two ladies came to us as a package deal with The Angels and actually believe they are ducks. Who are we to argue? You can find the Chucks motoring daily around the Quack Shack with a little gitchie, gitchie, ya-ya da-da in their steps!
NOTE: We are sad to report that Sister Christian passed in January 2024.
Favorite Songs
(no big surprise) “Lady Marmalade” by LaBelle & “Sister Christian” by Night Ranger
Brown Sugar & Foxy Brown
These two “sisters from another rooster” arrived to us from different donors on the same day, immediately took a shining to each other and have been inseparable ever since. Now that they are here, they are Shining Stars, shining bright to see what they can truly be.
Favorite Songs
“Brown Sugar” (duh) by The Rolling Stones and “Foxy Lady” by Jimi Hendrix
Chuckles & Blackbeard
Except for their size, these galloping gals are identical Australorps. Chuckles is Mini-Me to Blackbeard’s Dr. Evil. Although they may appear harmless, these two are secretly plotting total world domination from their underground chicken lair.
Favorite Songs
“Every Chicken Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears & “It’s the End of the Coop as We Know It” by R.E.M.
Esmerelda
Esmerelda is a Fawn & White Indian Runner Duck who was secretly smuggled to our farm from our southern border after being forced to be an Oregon Duck. After realizing that she is truly a Cougar/Husky mix, Esmerelda decided she was leaving (leaving) on the Midnight Train to Maltby to find a simpler place and time.
Favorite Song
“Keep on Duckin'” by Eddie Kendricks
Hazelnut
Hazelnut is a former CIA (Chicken Intelligence Agency) operative specializing in the infiltration of foreign chicken farms looking for national security threats and keeping America safe. She may well be here spying on Chuckles and Blackbeard.
Favorite Song
“Somebody’s Watching Me” by Bockwell
Pepper Anderson
Pepper is Quackerville’s official Police Woman. She monitors the perimeter, alerts the flock for hawks and loves a good glazed donut. Angie Dickinson would be proud!
Favorite Song
“Every Little Thing She Pecks is Magic” by The Police
The Pig Pen
Laverne & Shirley
Laverne and Shirley are the new crew to the zoo. They thoroughly enjoy destroying our fields and then giving us the “what’d I do?” look. Give them any chance, they’ll take it. Read them any rule, they’ll break it.
Favorite Songs
“Pig Girls Don’t Cry” by The Four Seasons and “Baby What a Pig Surprise” by Chicago
Fallen Stars
Madame Buttercup
Forever to remain the Madame of the Chicken Brothel. She’s our Sister Golden Hair surprise.
Scout
Is it a wonder we feel a little lonely? He’s not just the only one. He’s the one and only.
Ichabod & Louie
One for all and all for one. Just as sure as the river’s gonna run. Blood on blood.
ChewPaca
He wasn’t here for a long time, but he was here for a good time!
Goldie Hen
Only you came when I needed a friend. Believed in me through thick and thin.
Birdie
A spitfire til the end, always running wild and lookin’ pretty.
Mavis McNugget
Mavis came and she gave without taking.
Rowena Ravenclaw
Rowena was like a first-morning dew on a brand new day.
Amador & Apolo
Amador (left) & Apolo were our first residents who came with the farm when we bought it in 2014. They were the leaders of the pack and the defenders of the barn. They truly inspired the idea of Barn Stars. They both lived carefree lives on the farm and passed at the ages of 13 (Apolo) and 16 (Amador).
Rose & Theodore
The two Original Goats who started this wonderful journey. But we would not give you false hope on this strange and mournful day. Oh, the mother and child reunion is only a moment away.
Staff Stars
Hazel, Millie & Freddie – Farm Security
Hazel, Millie, and Freddie (ordered from left to right) are the latest security team here at Barn Stars. When they aren’t sleeping in, taking their MANY union breaks, or simply eating their own feet, these three are using the remaining hour of their day to keep a diligent watch for predators, safety violations, or the dreaded FedEx driver. They are all graduates of the acclaimed Inspector Clouseau Academy. We are privileged to have them on our team!

“Cat Fight (Over a Dog Like Me)” by Stray Cats

We’re back to ALPACAS!! After losing two of their buddies to bear attacks, these two had to be relocated and we were happy to give them a safe haven.
Alpacas were our first guests at Barn Stars and the muse for our logo (miss you Amador!)
